Instructions No. 3424
Difficulty: Beginner
Working time: 3 Hours
1. Transfer the Design & Stretch the Yarn
Before you start getting creative, stretch your fabric as tightly as possible into the embroidery hoop. Roughly trim the fabric and transfer your desired design onto it. For imaginative designs, you can use a sublimation pen, which disappears after 1-2 days. Alternatively, you can use a pencil, but then you need to work precisely to ensure no marks are visible later.
To thread the yarn, use the threading tool of the Punch Needle. Insert it from front to back, pull the thread through the eye, and bring the thread to the front tip. Release the threading tool and insert it from top to bottom through the hole in the needle tip. The thread should point upward.
2. Fill in the Design
With the help of the built-in gauge, determine the loop length. Start with the shortest loop "D". Insert the needle into the fabric, pull the thread end through, and bring the needle back to the front without lifting it. Slide a bit further and repeat the process until a section of your design is filled. Ensure the yarn from the ball remains loose to allow loops to form. If you make a mistake, you can easily pull the thread out and start again.
Once you have completed a section, leave the needle punched through. Loosen the thread, cut the end off, and trim it if necessary. Try different loop lengths and work with the front and back to create different effects.
3. Finish the Project
After filling in the design, snip off all the yarn ends. Secure the ends with fabric glue. For wall art, this step is optional, but for cushion covers or similar items, it is necessary to prevent the wool from fraying. Note that glued spots will become hard, so use sparingly.
After the glue dries, re-stretch the fabric if needed, and trim it more accurately. Secure all ends on the back with additional glue. Now find a nice spot on your wall for your self-created Punch Needle artwork.
