Coloured structure pictures
Instructions No. 2832Working with structure paste on stretcher frames is currently a popular topic. With the paste you can create extraordinary works of art for your home in just a few steps. In this tutorial, we have three examples for you of how you can create beautiful textured pictures.
Example 1 - Coloured background and coloured structure paste
For this structure picture you first prime the stretcher with a colour of your choice. Here we have chosen the colour madder red-dark. For a more intensive colour result, apply a second coat of paint after it has dried.Once the paint is dry, tape several squares and rectangles with masking tape.
Now mix the white texture paste with some acrylic paint and mix well. We used the same colour as for the background. Apply the paste generously to the stretcher with a palette knife so that the entire surface is covered.
Now the creative part begins! Now you can use a palette knife to make different patterns in the still wet paste. Feel free to try out different effect spatulas and see which patterns you like best. If you notice that you have used too much or too little paste, remove or add a little more.
Example 2 - Coloured frame
For this variation, you first prime the entire stretcher frame with acrylic paint, as in the first example. Here, too, we used the colour madder red-dark.Now tape off one edge with masking tape so that there is only one square left in the middle.
Apply the texture paste there, as in the first version, and add patterns with an effect spatula.
As soon as the texture paste is completely dry, you can remove the tape.
Example 3 - White structure picture with coloured accents
For this picture, you apply the texture paste directly onto the stretcher. Proceed as in the first example. Once you are happy with the result, let the paste dry completely. Now you can add beautiful accents with acrylic paint. For example, paint the motifs. In our decoration example, we have created one of the patterns completely with acrylic paint and only added a few colour accents to the other pattern.
