Only the quilting gives your patchwork work that special something. Experienced patchworkers plan the pattern and finish of these sewn-on decorative topstitching seams very carefully. The pattern chosen for the topstitching should harmonize with the selected fabric motifs. In the case of flowers, for example, a flower pattern is often "pre-drawn" with needles and basting thread and then topstitched by hand or with a sewing machine .
At quilting , the patchwork is also lined with a voluminous non-woven fabric. This gives the decorative seams a great 3D look.
In addition to a practical quilting frame and quilting needle, the main accessories used are sewing threads specially made for this technique: Quilting threadis particularly elastic and tear-resistant. This means that a slightly longer thread can be used for quilting by hand without it breaking or twisting quickly. The high-quality yarn is selected to match the color of the patchwork.
